Over 1000 days of the full-scale war

I am getting to know a comedian who often posts interesting things. His name is Anton.

Anton is part of a team that made a film called Comedy of War – have a look at their trailer. I recently watched the film and I thought it was beautiful and tender. A moving story about the healing power of laughter. Anton is a comedian from Kyiv. And there is nothing funny now about life in Ukraine.

This is a post that Anton recently made :

Americans deserve Trump. I hope in Europe also conspiracy populists will win next elections and you will all live in chaos with your foil hats. I’m just tired to see how uncomfortable to you the fact that Ukrainians are still alive and fighting. I’m sorry for this, I know you’ve spent so many nerves on it and I realise nerves can’t be restored.

This is so fun to see your hypocrisity. You like to talk about democracy or justice on dozens of forums or documentaries but in face of real problem you just concerned and mumbling smth while north korea, iran get into war on russia side. They provide russia with bombs and you provide us with petitions, presentation and memorandums. Thank you, I always knew that Excel spreadsheet is very effective against Iranian drones.

They are killing childrens everyday and UN head shake hands with them. As I understand the best Antonio Guterres can do to stop putin for couple of minutes is masturbate his dick. Masturbate with two fingers because it’s peace sign.

I wish you all to live in conspiracy nonsense you deserve with your own stupidness. You did nothing to stop it. You didn’t change your lifestyle to face new reality like we in Ukraine do. It would be much better if you all were authoritarian regimes. In this case you will release us from listening your hypocrisy shit how concerned you are. Just say “we don’t fucking care” and live your life. I had so many interviews with foreign journalists about “culture and humour during war”, cause that’s my topic. And all your questions, journalists, made me fell that I speak with 9-years old kids who is writing essay for school. You should stop reading your high-educated books and listening podcasts about liberalism problems. Just open your fucking eyes and see the war and then just to do the right thing.

Much of what Anton says here resonates with me, sadly. What a world we are living in. No one seems to care. Greed is the driving force of the world. That is my view – I pray I am very wrong.

The rich will get even richer

One week ago the chaos was chosen. The irony of it all. Trump’s next presidency will see the rich getting richer and the rest getting squeezed more than ever. Minimum wage going up … forget about it. And another irony: the people that voted for Trump … he could care less about them. The biggest question I have sometimes asked myself: what does Trump actually care about? Besides himself that is. Well, we will all find out soon. Or we may not. He sounds crazy so often, so perhaps he is just that, a crazy narcissist.

Trump has no class and he is a bullshit artist. A business wizard he is not. But enough of this. The mainstream liberal media is already letting rip, and they are losing more and more eyeballs. What a fruit salad.

The difference between Trump and the Democrats, in my cynical view … not much. Neither of them actually care. The Democrats just pretend to care. Trump doesn’t pretend. He just shoots from the hip-replacement, and tells so many lies and makes up so many things, that he is more about chaos than anything else. Seems that lies are a bit part of modern life on social media, so perhaps it all just fits the bill.

Ukraine is the perfect example. If Biden really cared then how is it that Ukraine has only received 10% of the weapons that were promised this year, according to Zelensky. This actually raises an interesting point. If Trump cuts off aid to Ukraine would it even make a difference. Ukraine is getting hardly anything so if Trump cuts off the little they are getting it is not like Ukraine will be losing a big brother. There is even some thinking going around in Kyiv that perhaps Trump may shake things up, and that could lead to some change. Will it be a good change … time will tell. Uncertainty is the new norm, unfortunately.

Wow, 2025 is going to be a roller-coaster. I reckon inflation is going to up a notch or two. The checks and balances that apparently used to be in place are about to go the window in the US – it looks like a free for all.

The biggest war that will one day face us all is going to be between the haves and the have nots. The wealth gap is off the charts, and under Trump it is going to get worse. Greed is why Trump became the president again, and greed is coming to bite us all in the ass.

God, I hope I am wrong

Trump is seriously crazy. But again, so are so many people as we can see – the fact that the American election is gonna be so close already tells us a lot.

Trump will win. Greed is why. In a few days from now it will be a done deal. That is my view.

Greed is very popular, for some reason. Greed is good, as Gordon Gekko once said. And money corrupts.

I hope I am wrong – Trump is despicable.

What is happening with Ukraine also hints at why Trump will win. America’s leadership looks weak and they appear to be focused on so many strange things. America was meant to be a role model in the free world, but not anymore. Again, this is all my view. I am probably just very naive.

Ukraine has received just 10% of US aid approved by Congress earlier this year, Zelensky says.

What’s the deal with the support of Trump?! If so many people who know him better than anyone are warning America then why is this race so close?! So many of the staff under Trump’s administration are telling America at how dangerous Trump is. Imagine for a moment that all these people worked in a pharmaceutical company and warned us that a certain pill could harm us, that it could be dangerous. A pill you were about to give a family member could kill them. Would you still give them that pill? So many ex Trump staff are speaking out against Trump but no one is listening, or, they simply don’t care.

The story of “purpose” is the story of greed, and what I have learned over the past 20+ years is that you can try and inspire people to think, and perhaps act, but overall, greed wins out, for some strange reason. And I say this with sad intimate authority. I don’t need to look very far to see how real greed is.

Greed is why Trump is going to win. Greed is the biggest disease on the planet.

What is the opposite of greed? Is it kindness. I think it is. But where is the kindness in the world in the past decade, or two. Perhaps my perspective is shaped by what is going on in Ukraine, so perhaps I just can’t see the whole picture. But one thing I have experienced in my life: there are more greedy people than kind people.

“You need a thug to fight a thug.”

“Why vote for a man like Trump who emboldens fascists and racists and the very worst of society – but it’s America – you get the president you deserve and in many ways he symbolizes what America has become.”

There’s more to Ukraine than Hollywood gangster tropes and war

Ukraine is often branded as a place of corruption and gangsters, and Hollywood doesn’t help when it makes the villains Ukrainian. After living in Kyiv for years, I’ve experienced something very different. The country I know is filled with talented, hardworking, and warm people who possess an incredible sense of humor. Since Russia’s full-scale invasion, oo many people think Ukraine is nothing but a war zone.

I recently heard Mstyslav Chernov, the director of the Oscar-winning documentary “20 Days in Mariupol,” say that Americans often ask, “Is there more to Ukraine than the war?” I’ve had similar frustrating conversations abroad, with people asking, “Is that war still going on?”

A gift to the world

Ukraine is watching the US presidential election very closely. There is a real fear that if Donald Trump wins, he will throw Ukraine under the bus.

The world will lose out if Ukraine ceases to exist. The city I call home, Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, is an undiscovered gem. If Russia takes over Ukraine the world will be robbed of a great treasure.

What many people don’t seem to understand is that if Russia does win the war and takes over Ukraine, they will kill everyone, physically, spiritually, or both. Just look at the occupied territories.

Where will this leave us … ?

This is an incredible speech. I have listened to it a couple of times. It is totally compelling, articulate and powerful.

“Ask yourselves: what side of history do you want to be on?”

“Your rage does not exist in a vacuum.”

“We will become collateral damage to your rage.”

But I am convinced Trump is going to win, and it makes my stomach turn.

Assuming Trump does win, then where does it leave the world. Where does it leave all those folk that still believe in the value of values, because if Trump does indeed win, real values are a thing of the past.

In my view, the thing that seems to be valued the most is money. Greed is why Trump will win this election. Simple as that. We don’t need to look further than the rich VC’s, who always spoke of changing the world. Seems like all they want to do is grow their bank balances. And Trump is all about the rich getting richer. Elon Musk is a case in point.

I hope that little boy gets to see his dad again

Last week Monday I was at the train station in Kyiv and I saw something that made me cry. There was a little boy saying goodbye to his dad on the platform. The boy’s mom had her arms around her son and they were all crouched down, and I saw tears rolling down the boy’s cheeks. The mom and dad looked strong and calm, but this boy looked so sad. I imagine he was a bit older than Bunster, maybe 5 or 6. At that age I assume they know. Yes, that little boy knew something is not right. When will he see his dad again … ?

It is all so hard on the soul and it is horrible. What kind of a world are we living in?! The Russian war in Ukraine is insane, and it is pure evil. And from my perspective, the world just watches, and doesn’t do nearly enough to try help Ukraine. Endless lip service.

The scenario at the train station has been in my thoughts all of this week. It is not something new to me, but this little boy’s face looked so much like Bunster and it affected me more than other times when I have experienced this painful scene. Life goes on in Kyiv, but the pain and trauma is everywhere. I have so many male friends that are stressed about the mobilization. They all want to help their country but not everyone is born to be a solider. And of course, the thought of dying on the front line is very very scary.

You don’t read about these things in the mainstream news. But this war that Russia started is tearing families apart. Divorce rates in Ukraine are through the roof and so many people are exhausted and traumatized. That Monday Kyiv was attacked by big freakin’ missiles and it didn’t make the news. If this was any other big city in the world, there would be a response like we could not believe. But the world does very little when it comes to Ukraine. As you keep hearing in Kyiv: this is the new normal. But of course, it is not normal at all.

“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing,”

Russia is like a cancer – it will keep spreading, until it is stopped. I was reading one journalist’s update online recently, and he said that 90% of the world’s terrorism has Russia’s fingerprints all over it. If Russia is allowed to get away with this nightmare then they will keep pushing things, until one day, everyone will feel it directly. The dictators of the world are not stupid, and they are all conspiring while the West is sleeping.

There are so many foreigners in Kyiv that are trying to do good things. One such inspired soul is Sebastian, and his NGO Repower – it is an incredible vision. A psychological rehabilitation project for active Ukrainian front line medics and doctors, aiming to prevent difficult mental illness. Groups of hundred participants travel to Sweden to regain their strength and to keep saving thousands of lives back on the battlefield.

People are dying in the war. Every day. Good people. On the front lines, and in cities all over Ukraine. The trauma and pain is going to be there for generations to come. If you can help Ukraine, please try. Ukraine is a peaceful nation and is not into war. Russia started this, but the world must help to end it. And not by telling Ukraine to give up – that is never going to happen.

In less than 3 weeks from now the Americans will be voting on their president. This has a bearing on Ukraine, and on most of the free world. Please God some sense prevails and please God Ukraine is not abandoned by the US.

“Although we take Ukrainian resistance for granted, it has been the major sign of democratic resilience in the 2020s. Ukrainian resistance makes our normality (or whatever this is) possible. Had Ukraine failed, the world would be a far darker place. Thanks to Ukrainians, who are handling a titanic crisis essentially on their own, Americans have been able to recover from economic collapse and a global pandemic, and hold an election.”
